Crawfish won the state meet by an overwhelming number of points, in fact that victory was assured after Friday night. However the score of the meet is not always an indicator of success. As coaches we assess success based on performance. We strive to bring the previous 5 months of practice to fruition for one meet . We are successful in this endeavor (or not) because of the hard work and dedication of the swimmers we are privileged to coach. It is their belief in themselves and the confidence they have in what they are doing that allow success to happen. It is their support and encouragement of each other that breeds the confidence necessary to perform at their best. How lucky we are to be associated with this outstanding group of young men and women that are the fabric of our team.

The performance of the swimmers from Thursday through Sunday was a joy to behold. The excitement their performances generated each and every day was evident by the very vocal group of parents and swimmers that occupied our small corner of the Spar Center for the duration of the meet. What I enjoy watching is the momentum that is generated and increased from one swim to the next. This is a very powerful force and it is very motivating. Momentum is most evident on Sunday night when all are tired and somewhat spent and must “dig deep” to do their best. I thought that Sunday night was one of the best I have ever observed.

I offer my thanks and congratulations to all that were a part of such an enjoyable state meet.  I thank Dr. Ripple for the overall support and belief in this sport and our team. I thank Coach Courtney for her ability to handle the myriad responsibilities she shoulders and still successfully prepare our 12 and under swimmers. Their performance at state meet was a 3 and ½ day highlight reel. I thank Coach Thomas at our Lafayette facility for his hard work and dedication. I thank our very capable and dedicated coaches who are an unsung but integral part of our success.  Coach Alex, Coach Lyle, Coach Lexi, Coach Kayla and all of the Crawfish staff are a large part of  this weekend’s success. Also thanks are extended to Coach Patrick at Exerfit for his expertise and help in our dry land program. I also thank Shelly for keeping me somewhat sane. Her experience and insight are invaluable to our swimmers. Finally I thank our parents for their belief in our team and the many hours they are willing to volunteer. Without them none of this would be possible.

Now that the Oscar acceptance part of this letter is complete, I would like to add that success will always be earned is not an entitlement. All of the above mentioned facets of our current success must be refined and expanded. Once you think you have reached the mountain top and take things for granted you will quickly find yourself at the bottom wondering how you got there. I hope that all enjoy our hard earned current success and are willing to do all that is necessary to build upon our momentum. That will make Crawfish Aquatics an unstoppable force in the future.

Coach Billy
