Do you know what to do in a cardiac, breathing or first aid emergency? The right answer could help you save a life. With an emphasis on hands-on learning, our Red Cross Certification courses will equip you with the skills to respond in an emergency.
Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you will learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard. Optional add-on modules, including waterfront skills or waterpark skills modules, may also be available with some course sessions.
Topics include Patron Surveillance, Rescue Skills, Victim Assessment, Care for head, neck and spinal injuries along with full CPR/AED course work and full First Aid course work.
Successful completion results in a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding that includes first aid, professional-level CPR and AED in one certificate. Digital certificate available upon successful completion of course.
Prerequisite: Must be at least 15 years old (show proof and pass swimming requirements).
Course Length: Traditional in-person course format is 25 hours.
Course Manual: Participants are responsible for downloading course manual and bringing it with them during the course. Participants can download to their laptop and bring laptop to course or print out hard copy. Download Course Manual
Pre-Course Evaluation: The participant must pass a pre-course evaluation held during the first class before continuing in the class. To successfully complete the pre-course evaluation, the participant must be able to perform the following:
- Swim 300 yards continuously using freestyle or breaststroke with rhythmic breathing and a propellant kick
- Complete the following in less than 1 minute and 40 seconds: swim 20 yards using freestyle or breaststroke, perform a 7-10 ft surface dive, retrieve a 10 lb object from the bottom, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the 10lb. object held with both hands and keeping face above water, then exit the pool without the use of a ladder.
- Tread water for 2 minutes.
Lifeguarding Review Course
The Review course is designed to review the lifeguarding skills and core knowledge points required to recertify in lifeguarding.
Prerequisite: Current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or Shallow Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate and pass the pre-course evaluation swim skills test.
Important! If the Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate is expired, participants must take the full Lifeguarding or Shallow Water Lifeguarding course (not eligible for Review Course).
Course length ranges from 2 hours to 5 hours, depending on course option.
First Aid: Learn how to respond to common first aid emergencies, including burns; cuts; head, neck and back injuries and more. Pediatric option available.
CPR/AED: Learn how to respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in adults, including the use of automated external defibrillators (AED). Adult and infant/child CPR options available.
Review: Renew your First Aid/CPR/AED certification in an abbreviated class session. Current certification is required.
Each successful course completion yields a 2 year certification. A digital certificate is issued upon successful course completion with anytime, anywhere access to certificate and training history. Free online refreshers are available with all course options.

Sunday- 8:00am-5:00pm (Review Course for Recertification is Sunday only).
*Must make all 3 days in full to be eligible for final exam
*There is a lunch break on Saturday & Sunday. Minors will not be permitted to leave the facility during the break without parent/guardian.
